Most of you are aware that our section provides charitable support to Uplift Organization in Kansas City, which in turn proves clothing, meals and vital services to the homeless of our Kansas City area. Our annual donation date is coming around again on December 4th and we'd like to give you sufficient time to gather select household goods, canned non-perishable foods, hygiene items, and seasonal clothing that will be distributed by Uplift and put to immediate use.

What type of things is Uplift looking for? Imagine you were going to sleep in your backyard tonight. Now imagine the temperature was 5 degrees and you hadn't eaten that day. What Uplift needs are what you would need to survive. They need warm, useable clothing such as jeans, sweaters, sweatshirts, underwear (especially thermal), socks, athletic shoes, boots, gloves, scarves, ball caps and beanies, jackets, and coats. Tarps, tents, back packs, hand warmers, candles (no glass), matches, new batteries (D, C, A, AA, and AAA) and sleeping bags are especially prized. Canned food (requiring no can opener) with more than 60-days remaining before expiration would really help. Hygiene items are welcome, especially in the complimentary (non-glass) sizes found in hotel rooms.

Uplift boardmember Jim Schmidt will bring a Mercedes Sprinter van in Uplift's livery to the top level of the Aristocrat Motors' parking garage at 9:00 a.m. We'll stack our boxes and bags of donations in the van and catch up with Jim before he returns to Uplift's Saturday sort downtown. Not all donations have to be in a box or bag -- a donation from your checkbook will fit very nicely in an envelope. Jim will have receipts available.

We'll look forward to seeing you at 9 a.m. on December 4th! In the meantime, be sure to explore Uplift's website here.
