 June Picnic at Hafer Park

The “guest of honor” for our June picnic meeting was a Plymouth, Miss Firth’s 1939 deluxe rumble seat coupe.  Members of the Central Section had learned her history at our May Meeting and were anxious to meet her in person.  She was escorted by her third owner, Robert Murray, and parked in the center of the circle for all to admire.

Our Saturday, June 18th get-together was also made special by the thirteen Members of the Eastern Oklahoma Section who joined the twenty-eight Members of our Section.  Our President, Charles Woods, and Eastern Oklahoma Section Vice President, John Kushnerick, each said a few words of welcome to the attendees, with appreciation to the Tulsa drivers who made the effort to find Hafer Park in Edmond.  In spite of the warm summer weather, the pavilion in Hafer Park is shady with a light, constant breeze.  The venue also is perfect for checking out each others’ fine automobiles, parked in a circle around the pavilion.  A large part of our comfort was due to the efforts of Masood and Farah Kahn, who arrived earlier that morning to spray the area to keep away mosquitoes and flies.  The Executive Committee cleaned tables and set up standing fans.  We also want to thank Kenny Hoffman and Mike Dippel for these great photos.

All we had to do was reacquaint ourselves with fellow Mercedes lovers and make a few new friends.  It didn’t hurt to have a nice catered spread of barbecue, beans and salads, followed by ice cream cups.

The goal of what has become a summer tradition is a relaxed opportunity to share our love of cars and make new friends.  We look forward to more of the same in 2017.
